DESCRIPTION OF PLANNING COMMISSION
The Planning Commission is an advisory board consisting of five (5) members serving four (4) year terms. The Planning Commission makes recommendations to Borough Council on all land development and subdivision applications submitted to the Borough. The Commission plays an important role in developing the Borough’s Comprehensive Plan, as well as keeping the Subdivision and Land Development and Zoning Ordinances up to date and in compliance with Pennsylvania's Municipalities Planning Code (MPC).
The majority of the Planning Commission’s duties pertain to the review of land development and subdivision plans, however, it also reviews proposed changes to the Zoning Ordinance and Zoning Map; proposed changes to the Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance, Comprehensive Plan revisions, rezoning petitions, and conditional use applications.
A Planning Commission member cannot serve on the Zoning Hearing Board. Only a certain number of Planning Commissioners can be officers or employees of the Borough. On a commission of five (5) members, at least three (3) shall be citizen members. The Commissioners are appointed by Borough Council and receive no compensation.
The Planning Commission meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in Borough Council Chambers, Borough Hall, 21 Locust Street, Macungie.
Commissioners are encouraged to attend education and training seminars.
