Water and Sewer
The Borough of Macungie provides municipal water and
sewer service. The Borough's public water system is served by two wells
and is maintained by the Borough's licensed water operators and the
maintenance staff, with guidance from the Pennsylvania Department of
Environmental Protection. The Borough Authority annually distributes a
Consumer Confidence Report regarding the Borough's water testing results to
all Borough residents. Water and sewer rates are charged by the
Borough on a quarterly basis.
Water Rates: Effective the
first quarter January 2008 the water rates per EDU (equivalent dwelling
unit) are as follows:

Sewer Rates: Effective the first quarter January
2010 the sewer rates (per billing unit) are as follows:

Example based on quarterly water usage of 10,000
gallons, the bill will be $36.16 (fixed) plus $29.90 (flow charge)
totaling $66.06 for sewer. |

|
Billing units located outside Borough limits will be
charged the fixed fee plus flow charge based on usage of 200 gallons
per day. A request may be made to install a water meter at the
property owner's expense for a more accurate record of water usage.

Water Leak or Sewer Problem:
Call (610) 966-2503 between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm. For off
hour emergencies, call (610) 437-5252.
PAYMENT POLICY FOR THE QUARTERLY UTILITY BILLS
All payments are to be received by the close of business (4:30 p.m.) on the
due date (15th) or postmarked the due date. In the event the due date
(15th) falls on a
Saturday, Sunday or a holiday, all payments must be received by the close of
the next business day or postmarked the next business day. (3/2/09)

Utility bills placed in the drop box after business hours will be
considered late

Trash Collection-
The Borough provides curbside trash
collection twice per week for all residents and commercial establishments
meeting the three (3) bag per pickup limit. Containers may not be
placed at the curb before 6 pm before the scheduled pickup. Trash
collection is Monday & Thursday. Place your trash out on Sunday
evening for Monday AM pick up and Wednesday evening for Thursday AM pick up.
EFFECTIVE NOV 1, 2009, QUARTERLY REFUSE RATE
IS $85.50.
Bulk Items - furniture, bicycles and large waste materials, excluding white goods may be placed at the
curb for collection on the first regular collection day of the week.
White Goods - stoves, dishwashers,
refrigerators, freezers, hot water heaters, washers and dryers, microwaves
and similar appliances shall be placed out for collection on the second
pickup of the week with the recyclables. The refrigerant must be
removed from all refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners prior to
collection.
TIRES ARE NO LONGER PICKED UP FOR TRASH

If your trash and/or recycling is not taken
by noon on the pick up day, please call the Borough office at 610-966-2503
to let us know. We will notify hauler and they should be back that day
or by noon the next day to pick up the missed trash. |
Recycling
Recycling collection shall be once per week on the Thursday pick up.
Place your recycling out with your refuse on Wednesday evening for Thursday
AM pick up. The following materials are designated as "recyclable
materials" within the Borough of Macungie.
Commingles items and paper items may be placed in the same recycling

Yard Waste
Macungie Borough residents may
take their yard waste to the Emmaus Borough Municipal Yard Waste Facility.
A pass must be obtained from Macungie Borough office before you can use the
yard waste facility.

Christmas Trees
Trees may be placed out for
pickup by the Borough trash hauler during the last week in December and the
first two weeks in January.

Leaf Collection
Leaves will be
collected curbside during October, November and
December. During this time, residents are asked to rake their leaves to the curb for
collection by 7:00 a.m. Monday of the collection week. Do not mix
grass clippings, garden waste, tree or shrub trimmings with the leaves or
they will not be taken. These items will damage the leaf vacuum.
Leaves may also be dropped at
the Borough garage on Spruce Street after October 15th or taken to the
Emmaus Yard Waste site. A pass must be obtained from the Borough
office before you can use the Emmaus site. |

If you do not receive
your bill by the end of January, April, July or October, please stop in the
Borough Office or call 610-966-2503 to get a copy of the bill and/or let you
know the amount that is due. |

Drop Box
Water, sewer, refuse and Per
Capita Tax bill
payments to the Borough office can be placed in the drop box on the Church
Street door during or after business hours. Permits, Earned Income Tax
and Occupational Privilege Taxes may also be placed in this box. The box is checked each morning for
deposits. Real Estate Tax bills cannot be placed in the
drop box. Note: Utility bills must be in drop box by close of
business on due date.

Snow Emergency
Information
The Mayor may declare a snow emergency and ice emergency
within the Borough of Macungie. Information on the existence of the
emergency will be given through the following television and radio
stations:
